Under-18s Report | Wrexham 3-0 Argyle
Argyle Under-18s lost 3-0 to Wrexham in their first match of their pre-season camp in Liverpool on Tuesday afternoon.
The tie at Edge Hill University started in the Welsh side’s favour with two early goals, scored in just seven minutes, comfortably putting them in the lead. From that point, however, Argyle slowly worked back into the game and managed to gain more possession over time.
The Greens created multiple opportunities from corners in the first 45 minutes, with the best coming from a Lewis Flowers header, but none were too harmful for the defensive line of Wrexham.
The second half created more chances for Argyle as it went on, but again, it wasn’t enough to find the goal that may bring Head Coach Jamie Lowry’s side back into the game.
Fletcher Poole created space down the left flank, delivering into the area for Frankie Maund, but the Greens’ number nine effort off at goal was saved by the feet of the Wrexham ‘keeper.
In the final minutes of the game, Poole had an effort at goal of his own – Argyle’s 12th shot of the game, compared to Wrexham’s six – but the left-footed shot flew over the bar and out of play for a goal kick.
Seconds later, the visitors had a third through a headed effort from inside the area after attacking play on the right flank, marking the final action of the game before the full-time whistle.
