SuperCupNI Report | West Ham United 2-2 Argyle

Argyle started their 2025 SuperCupNI week with a 2-2 draw against West Ham United, after conceding a late goal in Broughshane.

The Greens took the lead in the first half through a Zain Malik header, coming against the run of play. A positive start from the London side saw Argyle have to defend continuously for the opening quarter of an hour, but found the breakthrough in the 18th minute through Malik’s header from a free-kick.

Just before the half-time whistle, however, West Ham equalised. A drive through the defence ended with a slotted finish into the far-left corner of Tom Armytage’s goal.

The second half started much like the first, with the Hammers holding most of the possession, but it was substitutions from Head Coach Niall Cully that switched the game into Argyle’s favour.

Seconds after coming onto the pitch, Joseph Snell was taken out inside the 18-yard box and Argyle were awarded a penalty, which was coolly converted by Jacob Hare, who reared off in celebration and was mobbed by all his teammates.

It seemed as though the Greens would be able to hold on and pick up an exciting victory, but a last-minute additional time goal for West Ham meant the points were shared in the opening tie of Group D in Northern Ireland.
