Paterson excited by Argyle project and atmosphere
Jamie Paterson, Argyle’s first summer signing, is excited at the prospect of getting started.
Paterson, who counts Nottingham Forest, Bristol City and Swansea City as former clubs, spent the back end of last season at Coventry, but now heads to the South West to help the Greens fight to achieve the goal of returning to the Sky Bet Championship.
“[I feel] good. It's happened quickly!” Paterson told Argyle TV. “My season finished just over a week ago with the play-offs, but I'm happy to get it done early, know where I will be next year and where I can focus my energy.
“Argyle are a big club. I've always enjoyed playing here, especially with the good atmosphere, and they are a club that are looking to try and get straight back up after getting relegated last season. My dad lives close to here as well, which is another positive, so I get to see him a bit more.
“Another reason was the project. Speaking to the gaffer (Miron Muslic), who's a really likeable character and somebody that's driven and wants to get promoted straight away, I just felt like it was something that I wanted to do, get done early and then I can get on my holidays and enjoy some time off.”
A key memory of visiting Home Park and facing Argyle for Jamie has been the unwavering support from the Green Army, both home and away, and the atmosphere they bring to every fixture.
The 33-year-old had nothing but positive words for the Green Army and credited them as a reason for making the move to Devon.
He said: “Playing here, the atmosphere never makes this an easy place. I played here a couple of months back with Coventry, came off the bench and the atmosphere was great. We lost that game and deserved to lose; that atmosphere can make a big difference.
“I've always noticed that Argyle take a lot of fans away as well, which has always surprised me considering how far away it is. When I’ve played for different clubs, they always brought so many fans, which can make a big difference in any league.
“The away following and home support, I’m hoping they get behind us as much as they can this year.”
