Muslic previews visit of Millwall

Three days after one of the great Home Park occasions comes a game that may lack the glamour of Sunday, but equals, and possibly exceeds, the importance.

After shocking the world with a 1-0 win over Liverpool, the Greens return to league action against Millwall, looking to follow up not only their big cup shock, but a win against West Bromwich Albion in the last league encounter.

Head Coach Miron Muslic has been consistent in his messaging, before and after Sunday, that the Liverpool side quest was fun, but the main objective is league survival, and a win over the Lions would assist that cause.

It will not be easy. Millwall had their own big cup win at the weekend, winning 2-0 at Leeds United, and that follows three league victories in a row, against Luton Town, Portsmouth and Queens Park Rangers.

Speaking to Argyle TV, Muslic said: “Sunday was very emotional for all of us: for the staff, for the players, for the fans. But we have to leave Liverpool behind us because the next one is massive.

“Millwall are performing very, very well over the last weeks and months. They achieved an incredible result in the FA Cup, knocking out Leeds away, so it's a huge task. We need to get all the energy we have, all these emotions again, to show a very similar performance, like we did on Sunday. If we can manage to do this, we will be super competitive.

“I think we just showed over a couple of weeks that we can maintain our structure, we can maintain our intensity and if we can do both, being structured, being organised, fill it with intensity, we are hard to play. That's the concept we need to keep alive for the next games. If we can manage to do this, we can collect points.

“It will be very, very physical [against Millwall]. It's a different approach because Millwall will not dominate as Liverpool did in possession. They have a clear style of play. They know exactly what they can do, and what they can't do, that's why they are successful and that's why they're able to win games, especially recently.

“It's up to us to face this style of play. It will be very direct, very vertical, very demanding on second balls, but that's actually something we did fantastic over the last two or three weeks and this will again be very, very much needed.

“Sunday can be a reference for our togetherness, for our structure, for our intensity: aggressive, intense, brave. I think it was visible from minute one until minute 99.

“We should use this as a reference for all the upcoming games and if we can, if we can feel this again, and if we can again manage to perform like this, it will be very difficult for any opponent.

“That’s where we can start to be competitive and start to win games because in our situation we need to win games.”
