Matthews and Hatch Sign New Deals

Jack Matthews and Joe Hatch have officially signed on the line to be Pilgrims for 2025/26.

Defender Matthews had his first season as a professional last season, spending time on loan at Tavistock United and Taunton Town, while Hatch had a sensational scoring run for the Under-18s, before injury curtailed his season. He has been rewarded, though, at the end of his apprenticeship, with his first pro deal.

“It's definitely a massive achievement for me and my family,” said Joe. “People who have put a lot of dedication into me, people who have believed in me all the time – now I can pay it back to them.

“I want to play in front of the Argyle fans here at Home Park. Making a debut in front of the Green Army would be good.

“I feel like my job now is to take on board what [Academy coaches] have given me and just put it into practice. They have had a lot of faith in me, so I have to return that and give them the best I can do.”

Matthews added: “When I found out I got a new deal, it was and even better feeling than last year, to get rewarded again for hard work. I want to say thank you to everyone that's been part of my journey so far. Hopefully I can keep it going.

“I felt like my month at Tavistock went really well, then I moved to Taunton in the league above and was there for the rest of the season; a good seven, eight months. I really enjoyed my time there, to be fair.

“I got a lot of game time, and in men's football being a defender, playing against bigger strikers compared to smaller strikers, you learn a lot. I had a good year.”

Congratulations to both players, and their families. You can see full interviews with both Jack and Joe now, on Argyle TV.
