Layla Proctor signs for Argyle Women
Argyle Women have made their first signing under Head Coach Marie Hourihan, after completing the signing of Layla Proctor.
The 20-year-old midfielder makes the move to the South West having most recently played for fellow FAWNL Southern Premier Division side Lewes FC, where she was a key player for the East Sussex team.
Born in England, but growing up in Australia, Layla made a move to Germany at just 16 years of age after being scouted by SV Elversberg.
Proctor then joined the Manchester United Academy in 2020, playing through the age groups, before agreeing a dual-signee move with Huddersfield Town.
After her time with the Terriers, she switched to the south coast and joined tier-three side Lewes, featuring 23 times and scoring one goal in league play. Proctor played in both games against Argyle last season.
Head Coach Marie Hourihan said: “Layla’s a fantastic talent and someone we’ve been monitoring for a while. She’s got a great attitude, on and off the pitch, and we’re confident she’ll play a key role for us this season.”
Christian Kent, Executive Lead for Women’s Football at Argyle, said: “We are, of course, delighted that a player with Layla’s record, profile and ability has decided to join Argyle.
“This acquisition demonstrates the fantastic work that has occurred across the last few months in developing the Women’s team and underpins the strategy we have in place for the future.”
Layla will wear the number six shirt. The signing is subject to league and FA approval.
