Jamie Paterson

Jamie Paterson signs for Argyle

Argyle have made their first signing of the summer with the capture of Jamie Paterson.

The 33-year-old forward spent the last three months of the season with Coventry City, aiding the Sky Blues’ play-off push. He made eight substitute appearances for Coventry, his hometown club, including scoring a spectacular winner against Portsmouth. Curiously, his final appearance for City was at Home Park, against Argyle, on 21 April.

He will now join the Pilgrims following the conclusion of his Coventry contract on 30 June.

Paterson began his career playing in the Manchester United Academy with the likes of Jesse Lingard, but it was with Walsall that he made his professional debut. Following more than 100 games with the Saddlers in League One, Paterson made the step up to the Championship with Nottingham Forest.

Jamie spent three years with Forest, including a season on loan with Huddersfield Town, before making a move to Bristol City. Five years of playing regularly at Ashton Gate – 157 games for the Robins - led to a further three seasons across the Bristol Channel at Swansea City, where he racked up another century before departing at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.

Paterson joined Charlotte FC in the American MLS for a short time, at the conclusion of their 2024 campaign, before joining Coventry in February.

“I am very happy that we have acted quickly to make our first signing of the summer,” said Argyle Head Coach Miron Muslic. “I spoke to Jamie on a video call last week and I think his character and experience will fit in perfectly in our locker room.

“He can play in a variety of positions along the front line, and will complement the way we want to play next season.”

Head of Football Operations David Fox added: “It is good to have our first player through the door, and particularly to have Jamie Paterson on board. He has spent virtually his whole career in the Championship, and to have a player of his quality and experience in our squad will be of great benefit.

“Well done to Tom Randle and the recruitment team for getting this sorted. We look forward to seeing Jamie in the green and white very soon.”

The deal is subject to EFL approval.
