Argyle Under-18s travel to Cambridge United on Saturday afternoon for their final Youth Alliance League clash of the season.
With recent wins over Bristol Rovers and Northampton Town, and a point against Sutton United at home, the Greens are looking to end the campaign on a four-game unbeaten streak.
A win for Argyle and results falling favourably would mean a fourth-place finish in the South league table can be achieved, rounding off a positive season of competitive play.
Head Coach Jamie Lowry thinks recent victorious performances will put his side in good stead ahead of the tie, but wants the squad to go out, perform and enjoy themselves for one final time this year.
“We’re looking forward to another opportunity to build upon last week's victory,” Lowry told Argyle TV. “The boys want to finish the season strong, and it would be nice to do that. It's a long journey, however. We're going up the night before to prepare and do things properly, but it’ll be down to the performance on the day.
“We must work hard, be competitive, win one-on-one duels, and then, if the pitch is suitable to be able to pass the ball around on, then that will be a big part of our play.
“I think the match is also about the boys going and enjoying it. We speak about the lads’ journey through the Academy from whenever they came in and how it has been about these moments. Whether it's their last game, a big game in the FA Youth Cup, winning titles and things like that, they must recognise all the hard work they've put in throughout the years they have been in the system and go and enjoy it and finish on a high.
“It will be about winning, though, to them. If they play well and don't win the game, they will be upset and frustrated. We will say to enjoy it and do things properly, but part of enjoying it is winning the game of football, working hard for 90 minutes and then coming out with three points. It will be a nice journey back if that's the outcome.”
Cambridge currently sit 17th in the league table, ahead of Bristol Rovers and Exeter City. However, Lowry is aware of the physical profile that the U’s possess and wants to make sure his side is not complacent on Saturday afternoon.
He said: “They are physical, and play back-to-front a little bit, but not overly. They definitely have a physical presence in terms of the game's stature. It’ll be about us dealing with that, competing and winning our one-on-one duels. Then it's about us passing the ball and being able to put our patterns on the game to get a result.”
